On February 22 and 23 the “Five Words for the Future Workshop” took place in Rome, with Derrick de Kerckhove and Pier Luigi Capucci, curated by Gianna Angelini with the students of AANT – Accademia delle Arti e Nuove Tecnologie. The workshop aimed to compare the visions of the future of the academy’s students (a human perspective) with those of two Generative Artificial Intelligences: ChatGPT and Gemini. Students and generative AIs were tasked with expressing five concepts, ideas, or words they deemed important for the future. They presented and explained their choices through videos, following the model of fivewordsforthefuture.
What are the 5 words/ideas/themes/inventions that AI considers important? Are there any “vision” differences between ChatGPT and Gemini? What are instead the 5 words/ideas/themes/inventions that the students consider important for the future? What will be highlighted, and what will we learn, by comparing them?
The workshop presentation:
How does AI envision the future? And what do we, as designers, expect? What can we learn from comparing these two perspectives? In a workshop that combined theory and practical application, Prof. Pier Luigi Capucci and Prof. Derrick de Kerckhove (both members of the AANT Scientific Committee) guided students on a journey into the world of generative AI. This exploration went beyond the technological lens, incorporating historical and anthropological viewpoints.
